Process Paper on How to Choose a Cell Phone Plan Or How to change a Essay

Process Paper on How to Choose a Cell Phone Plan Or How to change a Tire - Essay Example However, shopping for a cell phone plan doesnt have to be any more complex than shopping for a new pair of tennis shoes. Selecting the proper cell phone plan is really just a matter of finding the provider that covers your area, provides enough minutes to cover your usage pattern, and includes any extra features, such as texting, that you might want to use. The first decision you will need to make when selecting a cell phone plan is to pick the best provider for your area. It is important to know that not all cell phone companies cover all areas. In addition, some services will have dead spots where a cell phone will not work. Local salespeople may be reluctant to tell you about poor coverage or known dead spots. However, the carriers websites usually have a map of the coverage that they have in the area, as well as any dead zones. There are also websites, such as mobiledia.com, that offers coverage maps, tower maps, consumer feedback, and links to the major carriers (Mobiledia). In addition, family and friends in the area can usually be the most reliable source of information. Once you have selected the carrier that has adequate coverage for your area, you can select the best plan that they have available that fits your specific needs. To select the best plan for your needs you will need to determine when and how often that you use your wireless phone. Most plans are sold with a limited number of minutes that can be used for talking through the week during the day. In addition, many plans come with free nights and weekends. If you do most of your talking at night, you may be able to have a plan that has fewer daytime minutes. If most of your usage is during the day, you may want to get more daytime minutes. Dont underestimate your amount of use. Remember, your cell phone is always with you and turned on. It isnt surprising that almost two thirds of the respondents in a recent survey said they use their cell phone significantly more than a

Write a response to Rothstein and Jacobsens The Goals of Education Essay

Write a response to Rothstein and Jacobsens The Goals of Education - Essay Example nia establish a public school that should, he said, place as much emphasis on physical as on intellectual fitness because â€Å"exercise invigorates the soul as well as the body.† (Rothstein, et. al.)George Washington went a step further. He argued that â€Å"goals for public schools were also political and moral.†(Rothstein, et. al.) The suggestions of Thomas Jefferson were purely political. He â€Å"most often linked with education in the public mind, thought universal public education needed primarily to prepare voters to exercise wise judgment.†(Rothstein, et.al.) So, the perspective about education changed, as time rolled by and change in the political leadership of the country. I am reminded of the parable of four visually challenged (blind) persons in argument about the shape of the elephant. One had the feel of its long tail and argued that the shape of the elephant is long. The second one, who touched one of its legs, said the shape is like the tree. The third one touched its trunk and said the shaped is like a rubber hose. The fourth one had the feel of the ear and said that the shape is like a giant leaf. An eye surgeon, who listened to their conversation, took them to his dispensary, operated upon their eyes and he was able to restore the eyesight. When he showed them the elephant, they realized that their judgment was wrong. Similar is position of the politicians, sociologists, academicians and the bureaucrats, when they tender opinions and try to frame the policy on the system of education that needs to be adopted in America. None has the comprehensive outlook about the genuine needs of the students in a multicultural, multi-ethnic society that suf fered from the bane of racism for more than two centuries. The goal of education needs to be man making. Within this broad goal, all other subsidiary yet important goals are integrated. According to the authors, reading scores alone will not go to mold an individual into a responsible citizen with abilities

Orwell vs. King Essay

After reading pieces of literature from both George Orwell and Martin Luther King, the pieces of literature were wrote about thirteen years apart therefore they used very different methods, perspectives, and purposes.. Martin Luther King uses allusions and a variety of indirect insults where he states nation flaws but does not direct them towards someone directly. Orwell uses more themes, morality plays, myths and metaphors. As Kings purpose is to inform the audience that they are aware of the injustice going on, and Orwell is entertaining the audience with such interesting and rare short nolvels. In the well known speech â€Å"I Have a Dream† by Martin Luther King, he used plenty of allusions when he refers back to the common phrases such as â€Å"Five score years ago†, â€Å"One hundred year ago† refer to the past. He mentions a part from the constitution where all men should be created equal he implied it by saying â€Å"I have a dream that one day this natio n will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal†. In the quote he states how all men are suppose to be treated equal but black man aren’t being treated equal because of their skin color. Martin Luther King also brings up God when he states â€Å"Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God’s children† He is making it an allusion by bring up God and stating that that is what God would want. That the children would want to be recognized as equal because that’s how God made them, no matter the color of their skin they are all equal. On the other hand, George Orwell uses a lot more themes such as imperlisim and conqueror or conquering. These two themes are shown in the writing â€Å"Shooting An Elephant† in where he wants to fit in to a society where the only way to conquer that is to shoot an insane elephant that escaped, as much as he didn’t want to do it due his values and morals he did it to look good in front of the village and the citizens. He kept repeating the word â€Å"mus t† as if he was being forced by the people just for him to fit in. In the writing â€Å"How the Poor Die† Orwell uses plenty of detail when he describes the room, the people, and the treatments they practice on them. For example, the way he described the room was â€Å"..Ill-lit room, full of murmuring voiced with three rows of beds surprisingly close together. There was a foul smell, faecal and yet sweetish†. He described the people not by names but by numbers as they did at the hospital that sounded more like a practice lab in which the doctor and students examined the patients to see what was wrong, the people with the worst and rare illnesses got the most attention because those were the most interesting cases. The people with common cases were left in abundance to die without treatment of attention. As you may noticed both men use different methods but you also have to keep in mind that the writings are used with two different perspectives and purposes. Martin Luther King gives a much deeper emotional and touching tone and feeling because he was actually living it at the moment the speech was given, he saw how the African American people were being treated hoe they were segregated and treated unequal to the rest of society. Therefore, the speech gives the reader a totally different feel. George Orwell writes with more detail but also with the purpose of entertaining the reader. With the writing â€Å"How the Poor Die† he definitely conquered the purpose of entertaining because he kept the reader attached to the reading with the detailing yet very unique writing. He lets his imagination run which makes the readers keep reading because he uses such creative stories that no reader could even imagine in reading. Both men write different, although they were written about thirteen years ago, they were both written with different purposes. One to entertain and the other to inform, Martin Luther King makes the readers and audience comprehend how they are aware of the treatment given and how the nation has not kept its promise about all men being created equal. While Orwell uses his creative mind to form short novels that make him as a person a lot more interesting and adds spice to his work.

Women: Rhetoric and Daniel Defoe

Romela Deguzman Women back then were seen inferior to men. They were labeled delicate, dependent, ignorant, or weak. Their central aim was only marriage but most intriguingly, education was deprived from women because of their sex. Mary Wollstonecraft and Daniel Defoe, both renowned writers wrote essays that demand justice and fight for the education of women. They believed they were capable and as intelligent as men. Wollstonecraft and Defoe created outstanding pieces known for its strength and most importantly its effectiveness to deliver their message across.Mary Wollstonecraft wrote the essay â€Å"A Vindication of the Rights of Woman† on 1792. She used rhetorical devices such as counterargument and analogy to prove her point. For example, one of the counterargument she uses is â€Å"†¦the female in point of strength is†¦inferior to the male†¦This is the law of nature†¦Ã¢â‚¬ pg. 640. She agrees that women are not as physically strong as men but argue s that they could still be as educated and talented as them. She also used analogy such as â€Å"†¦like the flowers which are planted in too rich a soil, strength and usefulness are sacrificed to beauty†¦Ã¢â‚¬ pg. 639.In this analogy, she is trying to express that women are being used for adornments just like flowers; but they shouldn’t allow themselves to be objects of adoration but use their morals and intelligence to match men. With the help of rhetoric, her message about women was effectively delivered. Daniel Defoe, the author of â€Å"The Education of Women† also used rhetoric to convey his message about giving women equal education as men. One of the devices he employed was analogy. â€Å"The soul is placed in the body like a rough diamond; and must be polished, or the luster of it will never appear† pg. 48. He is trying to say that everyone is valuable and unique just like a diamond, but we need education to rise or bring out the best of us. Also you can read Rhetorical Devices in Night Walker by Brent StaplesWomen need education to polish their souls. Defoe also used rhetorical questions such as â€Å"†¦what they can see in ignorance, that they should think it a necessary ornament to a woman? † pg. 648. Defoe engages the reader through this question by letting them understand that there is nothing to be proud of about ignorance and should not be given to omen. He clearly points out that education is crucial for both men and women. Rhetorical devices such as analogies, rhetorical questions, or counterarguments strengthen Defoe and Wollstonecraft’s essay by engaging readers. It successfully allows readers to see their point of view in different images they could relate to, and openly addressing arguments. Rhetoric made their delivery effective and most importantly persuasive, invoking action and change.

A Glance At Modern Society - 1147 Words

D’Nae Webb Mrs. Murdock AP Language and Composition 18 March 2015 Title At a glance at modern society most would say that it is a close to perfect world. On the contrary, it is far from perfect; this world is full of war, poverty, and disease.
